Need for Speed (NFS) is a racing video game developed by Firemonkeys and published by Electronic Arts. The game, first released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, became available for Microsoft Windows devices through Origin after a year. The PC version of NFS has several features, such as the ability to play in 4K resolution and support for manual transmission, new cars, customization options, and five different ways of playing.
This Need for Speed game is inspired by the first Fast and Furious movie and explores a world of illegal street racing in Ventura Bay, which looks much like Los Angeles. The game has various storylines involving police chases, track races, and other action-packed car sequences.
In this NFS installment, the main focus is on illegal street racing within a location that never sees sunlight - Ventura Bay. The city's grid-based layout allows players to complete races without needing to stop, even for brakes. Throughout the game, you meet a diverse range of characters who only talk about driving techniques and share their love for street-lingo.
The Need for Speed free download includes an unlocked frame rate as well as 4K resolution, along with new cars and wheel support. The game offers a variety of customization options for players to enjoy while racing through the city.
Car handling is smooth in NFS, and suspension tuning feels realistic. However, one drawback of drifting is that it causes a significant drop in speed, making maintaining momentum difficult at times. Additionally, there might seem to be a designated speed limit you cannot surpass during gameplay.
The Need for Speed PC version offers five ways of playing: Speed, Crew, Build, Style, and Outlaw. Players can also participate in 79 main events along with side activities such as hunting for doughnut spots or discovering scenic views while racing through the city.
NFS provides two customization options, performance and visual. Players can upgrade their cars with boosters designed to enhance speed, momentum, and overall score or change the car's appearance by adding panels or changing its stance. Players can also use a freeform livery editor to make changes that aren't based on pre-set designs.
However, it should be noted that an internet connection is required for playing Need For Speed, even in single-player mode; there's no pause button available.
Several other games from the NFS series also offer free roam, including Rivals and Payback. The most recent game in this series is Need for Speed: Heat (released November 2019), which pits players against rogue police officers while attempting to become an elite racer in the city.
There are alternatives available if you're not interested in playing Need for Speed games free download; try racing games such as TrackMania, Asphalt 8, and Extreme Racers. While many players consider Need for Speed (2015) to be one of the best NFS games available on PC, some argue that other titles like Rivals and Carbon offer better customization options.
